It took me a little bit of work to understand what the hierarchy of badges that the Girl Scouts are using currently. I was really struggling with the vocabulary and order, but I think I have it figured out and hopefully this will help you.
To explain the illustration above, there are 3 Brownie Journeys. The Brownie Quest, A World of Girls and Wonders of Water. Each Journey has a book that guides the troop along their “Journey”. Each Journey has a set of patches and each patch has activities that you can follow in order to complete them. There are a TON of ideas on Pinterest as well. The book really serves as a guide and I did find it helpful since I am new to the idea of “Journeys”.
Once a Brownie completes all 3 Journeys, the Brownie will earn her Summit Pin. This is the highest award a Brownie can earn.
Then we have our traditional badges. Some of these can be completed while you are completing your Journeys. There is a lot of overlap. In my personal experience, I find it easier to complete Journey in a few meetings, work on the traditional badges for a while, then start a new Journey. The Journeys are a lot of work! The Brownie guide book is also super helpful!
Here is the badge placement for your Brownie sash and vest.
