Christmas has come and gone in a whirlwind the way it always seems to do.
Here are 10 of my favorite moments of this past Christmas.
1. The Christmas Tree.
This year we had a Christmas Tree! Last year I had some Christmas tree alternatives since we didnt have the space. We were able to put away all the baby gear and put up a tree. Reagan helped.
2. Taking Pictures of the girls.
3. Fun whilst shopping.
I really tried to get the girls matching pajamas. I wanted them both to have the reindeer pajamas Reagan is wearing in the pics above. I drove around to three different Targets on a Saturday morning before a big snow storm. Alas I did not find them, but I did see this…
Pretending KNOWING that I sound JUST like Mariah Carey when I sing along to “O Holy Night” from her Christmas album.
5. Finding that perfect toy.
I decided a while back that I was going to get the girls one of those wooden train sets with interlocking tracks. Holy cow they can be expensive! But I was told they were cheaper at IKEA. And they are! 10 bucks! You really cant beat that. Except Ikea is a little bit of a trek and buying it online was out of the question since it cost $15 to ship. So I made the plans to go with the girls to IKEA to pick it up. The day of the journey started weird.
Reagan woke up super early, Emily woke up super late. She woke up right when Reagan was ready to take her nap. So we waited for Reagan to wake up. Now it was late afternoon and the day has been waisted. I wasnt sure if should keep my plans so I decided to pray. I prayed that the Lord would guide and direct my paths.
On the way to Ikea there was a bizarre traffic jam and I couldn’t even leave my little town to get onto the highway. We probably sat for about 30 minutes when I decided to turn around and scratch the trip. On the way back home I decided we will stop at 2 stores a little more local. Our first stop was Home Goods. Home Goods had train sets for 50-75 dollars. No Thank You. A little more local, maybe 1 mile away from our front door is this store called Tuesday Morning. Wouldn’t you know that Tuesday Morning sold a train set with interlocking tracks for $10! How cool is that!!! What a cool answer to prayer.
As previously mentioned we got a real tree this year. For whatever reason the tree stopped drinking water. After a couple days of Google-ing it became apparent that the only real fix was to cut the bottom of the tree again because sap sealed the tree shut from drinking water. This meant I had to un-decorate, cut/drill and re-decorate.
So I did it. Before Reagan took a nap I took everything but the lights off the tree. I put Reagan down for a nap, tipped the tree over while still in its stand. I took off the stand, drilled several holes in the side and bottom and cut the tree using a little saw. Then I put the stand back on, stood the tree back up, vacuumed and redecorated before Reagan woke up. And it looked better the second time around. Oh Yeah!
7. Ladies Christmas Tea
Every year the Women’s Ministry of my church hosts a Christmas tea. This year it was more of a luncheon and I hosted a table. There was surprise snow storm the day of the luncheon. The caterer got stuck in traffic and snow but she eventually made it. Many ladies opted out or tried to make it and couldn’t. But overall it was still a lovely event. I hosted a table and made my centerpieces. It was a lot of fun and I look forward to participating again next year.
8. The Muppets Christmas Carol.
I love this movie. I just do. And guess what. It makes me almost cry every time I watch it.
This scene here, when Ebeneezer Scrooge sees how even his own family makes fun of him and says he is unwanted.
And then there is this scene. Beaker gives Ebeneezer his scarf and he is so shocked to be receiving a gift.
9. The Ugly Christmas Sweater Party.
Good times were had by all. Me and my bestie shared first place. She won for wearing the judges personal favorite sweater and I won for the best home made sweater.
You can see how I made my sweater here.
10. And lastly Emily’s performances in the Christmas programs.
There were two performances.
In the first one she REFUSED to wear the angel costume.
For the following week’s performance she agreed to wear the costume…
but she wasn’t happy about.
Once the show got going and they started singing she had a great time and did a wonderful job. Her halo fell off a few times and she put it back on and kept singing with the rest of the lil’ angels. It was pretty awesome.
That was much of my Christmas in a nut shell. I think it was one of my all time favorites.
I think that mostly had to do with me looking forward to giving gifts and not thinking about what I will be getting for the first time in my life. I’m a late bloomer 😉 But it really made a difference.
Also for the first time I don’t have the post Christmas blues. I think it is because I wasn’t focused on what I would be getting. And I was super-uper busy. So, its nice to get try to get back into the groove of things but with the added hope of the New Year.
I’m looking forward to what God has prepared for us this year. I hope I am ready to see it and receive it all!
